History

With one of the highest injury rates in male sports, gymnastics poses serious risks to a gymnast’s physical and mental well-being. Despite this and the sport’s growing popularity, gymnastics injury prevention and care has not been a focused medical study area.

Men’s Working Board

Gymnastics Medicine. a nonprofit organization, has both a Men’s Working Board and a Women’s Working Board. Welcome to the Men’s Working Board official website founded in May 2023.

Vision

A nonprofit comprised of a collaborative team of specialized healthcare experts who drive research, promote evidence-based outcomes, and provide education around gymnastics-specific injuries by transforming the diagnosis, treatment, and injury preventative care of gymnasts.

Mission

To be a collaborative team of gymnasts, parents, coaches, and healthcare providers delivering the most up-to-date evidence-based education/information and research on gymnastics-specific injuries, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and care of gymnasts.

Aiming to remedy this issue, Dr. Elspeth “Elly” Hart embarked on a journey to build the first-of-its-kind Gymnastics Medicine Sports Medicine Clinic, which focuses exclusively on diagnosing, treating, and preventing gymnastics related injuries.

The clinic grew in popularity, and she had patients coming to see her from all over the country. That’s when she came up with the idea for the nonprofit Gymnastics Medicine: Education & Research. Elly believed there should be more education and research on gymnastics injuries, and more healthcare providers should understand the unique treatment of injured gymnasts.

With this goal in mind, Gymnastics Medicine, a nonprofit and 501(c)(3), was born to provide additional information and education and much-needed research on gymnastics-based injuries and provide a forum for the gymnastics community. Gymnastics Medicine does not treat patients directly, however, our team of professionals offers critical information for diagnosed and injured gymnasts to better understand prevention, and reoccurrence of their injuries.

Our mission is to be a collaborative team of gymnasts, parents, coaches, and healthcare providers delivering the most up-to-date evidence-based education/information and research on gymnastics-specific injuries, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and care of gymnasts.
